JAYAPURA – Papua Deputy Governor Aryoko Rumaropen officially opened the Affordable Food Movement held in Kampung Buton, Skyland, Jayapura City, on Tuesday (May 12, 2026). The activity is part of the Papua Provincial Government's strategic efforts to maintain the stability of staple food prices and control regional inflation.
The event received an enthusiastic response from the community, with residents crowding the location since morning to purchase necessities at affordable prices. Various food commodities, such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, eggs, and other essential goods, were provided to help the community meet their daily needs.
In his statement, the Papua Deputy Governor said that the Affordable Food Movement is a form of the government's presence in maintaining people's purchasing power while ensuring the availability and affordability of food supplies in Papua.
"The Papua Provincial Government continues to strive to maintain price stability and food supply among the community. Through this affordable food movement, we want to help people obtain necessities at affordable prices while keeping regional inflation under control," said the Papua Deputy Governor.
He also emphasized the importance of synergy between the government, distributors, and all stakeholders in maintaining food security and regional economic stability.
Meanwhile, residents who attended the event said they were greatly helped by the activity.
One resident of Kampung Buton said that the prices of necessities sold at the event were much lower than market prices, easing the household burden of the community.
"Activities like this are very helpful for us, especially low-income communities, because the prices here are lower. We hope programs like this will continue to be carried out," said one resident at the event location.
Through the Affordable Food Movement, the Papua Provincial Government hopes that regional economic stability can continue to be maintained, inflation remains under control, and public welfare continues to improve toward an advanced, independent, and harmonious Papua. ***
