JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government is encouraging job seekers to begin looking at employment opportunities in the private sector, as recruitment for State Civil Apparatus positions within the Papua Provincial Government has not been opened in recent years.
Papua Regional Secretariat Assistant I, Yohanes Walilo, said the number of State Civil Apparatus within the Papua Provincial Government currently still exceeds the organization's needs.
"We currently have around seven to eight thousand ASN, and there is still an excess of employees," he said in Jayapura on Tuesday (May 12, 2026).
According to him, this condition has led the government to refrain from opening new State Civil Apparatus recruitment formations.
He explained that the high public interest in the Papua Job Fair 2026 shows that many job seekers are beginning to shift toward seeking opportunities in private companies.
"Because State Civil Apparatus recruitment has not yet been opened, many people are now looking for job opportunities in the private sector," he said.
The Papua Provincial Government also urged private companies, state-owned enterprises, and regional-owned enterprises to provide greater opportunities for local Papuan workers.
In addition, the government is opening opportunities for the placement of State Civil Apparatus in regencies, municipalities, and new autonomous regions that still need employees.
"If there are regions that need employees, they may submit a request to the provincial government," he said. ***
