SARMI — The Papua Provincial Government handed over regional-owned asset grants to the Sarmi Regency Government in the form of Starlink internet devices, solar panels, and a videotron to strengthen public services and digital connectivity in coastal areas and remote villages.
The handover ceremony took place at the official residence of Sarmi Regent Dominggus Catue in Petak, South Sarmi District, Sarmi Regency, on Thursday evening, May 14, 2026.
"This is part of the Papua Provincial Government's efforts to accelerate digital transformation and open access to communication for communities in areas that have long had limited internet and electricity networks," said Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri.
Fakhiri said the assistance is expected to help the local government provide faster services and reach communities in isolated areas.
"We want people in the villages to also be able to enjoy internet access and good information services. With Starlink and these solar panels, the local government can accelerate public services, education, health care, and community communication," he said.
According to him, Papua's development does not only focus on physical infrastructure, but also on strengthening information technology so that the community can keep up with the times.
"We must not be left behind. Areas with poor network access must be supported so that people have equal access to information and government services," he said.
The Papua Provincial Government hopes the grant can be used optimally by the Sarmi Regency Government, especially to support government activities, education, health services, and the development of a digital-based community economy.
In addition, the use of solar panels is also expected to support the operation of internet devices in areas that do not yet have an adequate electricity supply.
The grants provided include 36 Starlink units in several locations, supporting equipment for Starlink at 36 points, three solar panel units for each location, and one Videotron unit. ***
