SORONG — Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri has called on PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Papua to accelerate its digital transformation while maintaining system security and ensuring equitable access to banking services for the public.
Fakhiri made the statement during the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGMS) of Bank Papua at Vega Prime Hotel in Sorong City, Southwest Papua Province, on Saturday (Aug. 29, 2026).
According to Fakhiri, rapid technological developments and economic changes require Bank Papua to continue innovating to meet the evolving needs of the community.
However, digital transformation must not focus solely on transaction convenience. Strengthening system security and protecting customer data must also remain key priorities.
“Digital transformation must continue to be accelerated, but it must go hand in hand with stronger system security, data protection, and easier access to services,” he said.
He stressed that advances in banking services must not be limited to people living in urban areas.
Communities in mountainous regions, coastal areas, islands and border areas must also have access to quality banking services.
“People in mountainous areas, coastal regions, islands and border areas must not be left behind in accessing quality banking services,” he said.
Fakhiri said Bank Papua has an important role in supporting economic development across Tanah Papua. The regional bank is expected to strengthen public-sector governance, expand inclusive economic access, improve human resource quality and accelerate development.
He also called on regional heads, as shareholders, to strengthen cooperation to support Bank Papua’s growth.
According to Fakhiri, such synergy can be achieved through transparent banking interest rates, stronger cashless transactions, and increased financing for productive sectors and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
“The unity of provincial governments across Tanah Papua is a major strength in building an interconnected economic ecosystem,” he said. ***
