70 ventilators from the University of Rhode Island (URI) United States of America have arrived at Halim Perdana Kusuma, Jakarta.
Scheduled ventilator for the treatment of patients infected with Coronavirus was departed this Saturday (August 8, 2020) and arrived Sunday (August 9, 2020) in Jayapura.
"The ventilator is scheduled will arrive in Jayapura on Sunday, the flight is via Timika then to Wamena and then Jayapura", said representative of PT Freeport Indonesia, Sutomo during event handover of goods between the URI, provincial government of Papua and PT Freeport Indonesia, in Gensup Shipping and offsite Exim, Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport, Jakarta, Friday (August 7, 2020).
At the handover of the ventilator, the Papua provincial government is represented, the head of health office of Dr. Robby Kayame, SKM, M. Kes, spokesperson for the handling of COVID-19 Papua Province, Dr. Silwanus Sumule, representatives of URI Indonesia, Diana Devi and Dian Novita Sari and Sutomo, representatives of PT Freeport Indonesia.
The rector of URI, Dr. David M. Dooley, PhD, said the aid of this ventilator is a form of cooperation between University of Rhode Island and Papua provincial government. He was with the governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe,S. IP. MH has signed cooperation in education and human resources development (HR) in 2019. Both agreed to cooperate with research and training and development of human resources of indigenous Papuans.
"Our cooperation is well established. For the governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, I send a greeting from the University of Rhode Island. We say thank you for your visiting and delegation to Rhode Island last year and signed a cooperation agreement", he said.
Dooley said since Covid-19 pandemic, URI has coordinated with the provincial government through the head of the Human Resource Management Agency (BPSDM) of Papua Aryoko AF Rumaropen for the help of the ventilator.
"The ventilator was developed by the URI researchers involving Papuan doctoral students in America. We design innovative ventilators that can serve as additional ventilator equipment in the hospital to treat patients affected by COVID-19", he said.
The URI-design Ventilator was developed by creating a Ventilator by transforming CPAP and BiPAP devices. Each ventilator package contains a complete circuit for the handling of Covid-19 patients.
Meanwhile, the governor of Papua represented by the head of health office of Dr. Robby Kayame, SKM, M. Kes said the ventilator will be given to the Covid-19 referral hospital in Papua. "This assistance is for the Covid-19 referral Hospital in Jayapura, Mimika, Wamena and other districts", Kayame told the media crew.
