"We ask the government to follow up on this case, because it is related to humanitarian issues. Indeed, on the other hand, we admit that we are wrong, because we enter the waters of other countries. But we regret that there are lives lost".
"So, we from the family side ask that this be investigated according to the applicable law so that there is justice," said Agus.
It is known that Sugeng, the victim of the PNG patrol shooting left behind his wife and 3 children. The deceased worked as a fisherman who was also the captain of the Kalvin 02 Ship.
Previously, the captain of the Kelvin 02 ship from Merauke was shot dead while sailing in Australian sea waters, on Monday (22/8/2022) afternoon.
The victim, Sugeng, was shot by a Papua New Guinea (PNG) border security patrol, as he was about to leave for Merauke, Papua.
The head of BPPKLN Papua, Suzana Wanggai said there are still two ships that are currently being searched by Indonesian sea patrols. Two vessels, which had previously sailed along with Kelvin 02, were allegedly detained by PNG border patrols for local legal proceedings for encroaching on sea areas.
Suzana added that the foreign ministry is currently communicating with the PNG Government to check the situation of the crew members detained by the security forces of the neighboring country. ***
