JAYAPURA – The universities in Papua are asked to start establishing  a broadcasting institution in the campus environment. 

This is to encourage the provision of accurate and credible information related to the thinking of the educational institution, on various things that happen in the campus environment including development progress.

"The existence of institutions or broadcast media in the campus environment will provide benefits".

"This broadcast media can also be a means for students to develop their talent interests as broadcasters, which then when they finish their college they can become broadcasters in existing broadcasting institutions," explained the Head of the Higher Education Service Institutions for Region XIV Papua and West Papua, DR. Suriel Mofu at the Workshop on the Formation of Broadcasting Institutions in higher education in Papua and West Papua which took place in Jayapura, Monday (26/9/2022).

According to him, the campus environment has a community that numbers in the thousands of people. So that the existence of broadcast media will support the distribution of information regularly and around students in the campus environment, including warding off hoaxes.

"The point is that the availability of broadcasting on campus can also be hoax prevention, so that a harmonious relationship will be created between others in the campus environment and in the local area," he said.

Similarly conveyed by the Expert Staff of the Governor of Papua for Legal and Political Government Triwarno Purnomo. According to him, the presence of the broadcaster will certainly make universities as the motor of presenting more actual, quality and responsible information.

"Fake news or hoaxes are currently very widespread in the community so that broadcasters in universities will be alternative guidelines for accurate news sources and be sure of the truth," he said. ***
