JAYAPURA - The Embassy of Malaysia expressed the readiness to become a facilitator for companies in their country, to be able to invest in Papua.
The eco-tourism sector or natural tourism, is the most phenomenal thing because it will be able to attract Malaysian tourists to Papua.
"Currently, there are six Malaysian companies in Papua engaged in the palm oil business. We want to see opportunities that we can enter such as in fisheries, agriculture and others, but now eco-tourism is the most interesting," said the Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia, Adlan Mohd, during his visit in Jayapura City, Monday (10/10/2022).
He ensured that the follow-up of the work progress, where the Malaysian Government will try to open up opportunities for cooperation with the Papua Provincial Government in various sectors. Because Papua is considered to have a lot of potential that can be explored into business opportunities.
"This is my first time to Papua and the natural tourism is very extraordinary. A lot of negative information in a number of media (about Papua). But after coming here, it turns out that what is in the media (Papua is not safe for investment) is not all true," he added.
Acting Assistant III Regional Secretariat of Papua, Derek Hegemur, government of Malaysia can look at investments in other fields, such as fisheries or education and others that if there is potential to be worked on.
Derek also stated that the Papua Provincial Government has expressed a strong desire to build cooperation with the Malaysian Government, in order to encourage the development of MSMEs and the industrial sector in Papua.
"Papua has coffee, cocoa and wood so this can be developed. Of course, this cooperation will benefit both parties," he concluded. ***
