JAYAPURA - Head of the Border and Foreign Cooperation Agency or BPKLN of Papua Province, Suzana Wanggai, said that to overcome border problems, cooperation with all relevant parties is needed including neighboring countries.
Most of the border areas cannot be closed due to family relationship reasons, so they are focused only on Cross-Border Posts.
"The border area cannot be fenced off all the way, considering that these two (Papuan-PNG) citizens also need each other. Because there is still a family relationship".
"On the other hand, community interaction is very high, so we can't close with a fence. Increasing coordination of border area surveillance with all relevant parties will minimize problems," she said in Jayapura on Wednesday.
Suzana also appreciated that the joint Indonesian National Armed and Police Forces and Customs team succeeded in arresting one of the citizens from Papua New Guinea (PNG) who carried illegal bullets.
"Of course, we appreciate the arrests of citizens who carry illegal goods through the border," he said.
However, in the future, Suzana said, there needs to be increased coordination in terms of supervision at all levels, both provinces, cities, and districts as well as the governments of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea so the important information can be shared.
"Hopefully, the incident will not happen again in the future. But that's our border with the level of the problem," she said.
Previously, BM (28) a resident from Vanimo Papua New Guinea (PNG) was arrested by the Pamwiltasrat RI-PNG Yonif 132/BS Task Force and the Subsector Police and Customs while passing by the Cross-Border Post or PLBN Skouw, Mosso Village, Muara Tami District, Jayapura City, on Saturday (4/3/2023). ***
