JAYAPURA - The economic growth figure of Papua Province in the first quarter of 2023 was reported by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Papua minus 2.39 percent.
Although this contributed to the entire business field, the decline in gold and copper production due to rainfall and landslides also contributed to the decline in the economic growth rate of Papua.
"Most of Papua's economic growth is still dominated by the mining and quarrying sector.
"So when the mining and quarrying business contracted as deep as minus 11.64 percent due to declining production, economic growth also fell," said the Head of BPS Papua, Adriana Carolina Helena, in Jayapura, Monday.
In addition to the mining and quarrying sector, she continued, business fields that experienced growth contraction, namely the Processing Industry business field as deep as minus 0.29 percent due to production in the wood industry and several other industries decreasing.
"Thus, the sectors that experienced the highest growth in the first quarter of 2023 were the transportation, warehousing, electricity and gas procurement, and financial and insurance services," she said.
It is known that the economy in Papua based on the amount of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) on the basis of prices in force in the first quarter of 2023 reached IDR 65.29 trillion and on the basis of constant prices in 2010 reached IDR 40.95 trillion. ***
