SEMARANG - Proud mixed with emotion, that's the atmosphere depicted at Jatidiri Sports Center, Semarang, when the Papuan Women's Volleyball team won against the host Central Java (Central Java), Friday (21/7/2023) morning.
The victory was sweet, after the Papuan team, which went down a full team, managed to defeat the host resistance in three straight sets, in the final of the 2023 Fornas XVI Korpri Women's Volleyball.
Fighting under the full support from Jayapura, Papua's first set immediately ended by leading by a score of 25-17.
The pressing strategy applied by the coach went smoothly in set two. Papuan volleyball led 25-19 in the set.
The battle in set three was tight. The chase for numbers ensued until the points were as strong as 19. Nevertheless, the Papua Volleyball team was able to close out a 25-20 victory in set three.
Korpri Papua Women's Volleyball coach Frengki Saweri was not surprised by the dominance of the Papuan team in the final match.
Because West Java (West Java), which is predicted to be a potential champion, has been defeated by his team in the semi-final match two days ago.
"The West Java team is materially a strong team with experienced players in PON, maybe there are some former PON players."
"But today Papua materially and physically, we are better prepared than Central Java (to become champions)," he said.
Frengki on that occasion, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all parties, supporters as well as the Acting Governor of Papua and staff, for the opportunity for his team to compete in the Central Java National Pornas.
"This (victory) is also a booster for other players who have not had time to contribute medals yet," he said. ***
