JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK), in the near future will plant 66,666 bamboo seedlings in the buffer area of the Cycloop Mountain Nature Reserve boundary.
The planting activity will involve community elements and recruitment of the Cycloop Mountain Nature Reserve Task Force, elements of local indigenous peoples, along 60 km from Pasir 6 Jayapura City, to Maribu Village, Jayapura Regency.
"Of course, please support prayers for all community elements in the City and Regency of Jayapura. The activities aim to protect biodiversity, and then maintain the function of the Cyclops Mountains Nature Reserve, it will be carried out properly."
"The planting of bamboo seedlings also aims to prevent flooding, because of the existence of Cycloop as a water supply for Sentani Lake and a provider of clean water for the community," explained the Head of the Papua Communication and Informatics Department, Jeri A. Yudianto, Thursday (27/7/2023).
Jeri said that the bamboo seedling planting activity is still a series on the agenda of the Papua Provincial Government in commemoration of the 78th Indonesian Independence Day in 2023 in Papua.
The other routine agendas such as folk festivals, visits or pilgrimages to the Heroes' Cemetery (TMP), some competitions, as well as other related social activities and events.
Therefore, Jeri appealed to all people to participate in enlivening the commemoration of Indonesian Independence Day in Papua, as part of an effort to appreciate the struggle of heroes who have preceded on the battlefield.
"Of course, we are not participating in war in this modern era. But one of them is by protecting the environment around us in a broad sense, related to planting bamboo seedlings to save the Cycloop Nature Reserve," he said. ***
