JAYAPURA - A series of activities in the framework of the 78th the Indonesian Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia in Papua Province, officially launched in the Red Bridge area, Jayapura City, Wednesday (2/8/2023) morning.
The announcement by the Daily Executive of Papua Governor Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun was witnessed by Acting Papua Secretary Derek Hegemur, Acting Assistant Secretary of Papua for Economic Affairs and Welfare, Suzana Wanggai, Regional Leadership Coordination Forum of Papua and the heads of Regional Apparatus Organization.
The launching of the Indonesian Independence Day agenda was marked by the planting of mangrove seedlings by the Acting Governor of Papua accompanied by the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum of Papua. Then continued with the cleaning of the coastline of the Hamadi area and the distribution of red and white flags.
Acting Governor Ridwan Rumasukun hopes that the commemoration of the Indonesian Independence Day will be a momentum to arouse the awareness of the citizens to love the state more. One of them is by caring and sensitive to environmental issues.
"As citizens, we must also always be sensitive to the problems faced by the nation today. Especially those related to environmental issues".
"Because deforestation, illegal mining and global warming have triggered natural disasters in various parts of the world. For example, hurricanes, floods, landslides, coastal abrasion, droughts and heat waves. This certainly has a serious impact on the ecosystem and the lives of Indonesian people, especially in Papua. Therefore, there must be concrete efforts starting from the Papuan people," he hoped.
Chairman of the Indonesian Anniversary Committee at the Papua Province level, Suzana Wanggai said, as many as 78 thousand mangrove seedlings were planted in this activity. While as many as 20 thousand national flags were distributed.
She hopes that through this announcement, the Papuan people can participate in enlivening the commemoration of the Indonesian Independence Day in Papua. ***
