JAYAPURA - Ahead of the 2024 political year, the Papua Provincial Government is now encouraging the socialization of political education for novice voters. The targeted parties are high school students throughout Papua.
Head of the Papua Communication and Informatics, Jeri A. Yudianto stated that a number of efforts to encourage political education, among others, had been carried out by the local National and Political Unity Agency.
The agency conducted political education socialization for students of SMA Negeri 1 Sarmi and SMA YPK Eben Haezer Sarmi, with a total of 50 participants present.
"The aim is to increase awareness of the rights and obligations as citizens in giving their political rights in the upcoming 2024 simultaneous elections".
"It is also expected to increase the knowledge and understanding of novice voters about politics and elections, as well as hopefully increase voter participation," explained Jeri in Jayapura, on Wednesday (6/9/2023).
Jeri hopes that through this socialization, the local government will be proactive in providing political education to novice voters in Sarmi, ranging from urban areas to remote areas.
"Those who attended the activity were Assistant I Secretary of Sarmi Regency and the Head of Local National and Political Unity Agency. So we hope that the echo of the political year to novice voters can be continued by the Sarmi local government, to create safe and peaceful elections in Sarmi in particular and Papua in general," he concluded. ***
