JAYAPURA - The results of the enumeration of the 2023 agricultural census in Papua Province confirmed that the number of millennial farmers aged 19-39 years, the most were in Jayapura Regency with 4,654 people or around 20.48 percent.
This was said by the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Papua, Adriana Helena, in Jayapura, Monday (4/12/2023).
"For the second and third place, Biak Numfor Regency and Keerom Regency with 3,717 people or 16.35 percent and 3,630 people or 15.97 percent, respectively," she explained.
As for the number of millennial farmers in Papua Province, she continued, the total reached 22,729 people or 34.89 percent of the total farmers in Papua as many as 65,152 people.
Data on millennial farmers is one indicator of the level of regeneration in the agricultural sector and shows the use of digital technology that is expected to createproductive and sustainable modern agriculture.
"Based on the Regulation of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 4 of 2019 concerning Guidelines for the Human Resource Development MovementAgriculture Towards World Food Granary 2045, Millennial Farmers are farmersaged 19 to 39, and/or farmers who are adaptive to digital technology."
"So that a census was carried out on farmers, in this case, UTP which only seeks in the sub-sectors of food crops, horticulture, plantations, and animal husbandry, based on RI Law Number 19 of 2013 concerning the Protection and Empowerment of Farmers," she said.
It is known that the Agricultural Census is conducted by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) every 10 years, in years ending in 3.
The 2023 agricultural census is the seventh census conducted by BPS Papua from June 1 to July 31, 2023. ***
