JAYAPURA - Acting Assistant II of the Papua Regional Secretary, Suzana Wanggai reminded distributors of staple food in Papua not to hoard food supplies ahead of Ramadan for personal gain.
This was conveyed by Assistant Suzana, during a meeting with eight food supplier distributors in Papua and the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo), in Jayapura City, Tuesday (5/3/2024).
The meeting also checked the availability of staple food stocks including rice, cooking oil, flour and several supporting staple commodities, such as milk, instant noodles and margarine.
Meanwhile, from the reports of the distributors, continued Suzana, the stock of staple food in Papua is certainly relatively safe, although it does not rule out the possibility that due to high demand for goods, it has the potential to cause price increases from producers and suppliers.
"Other obstacles are faced such as the problem of inter-regional transportation which also contributes to the dynamics of food prices."
"That's why the government continues to monitor distributors to ensure that we remain committed to the government, maintaining stable economic conditions in Papua," said the Assistant.
Meanwhile, Suzana also requested that every item traded, pay attention to the validity or expiration of the product.
So that commodities purchased by consumers are not dangerous for consumption.
"We will check directly at the location."
"To ensure the provision of basic commodities and the quality of basic commodities in Papua are available in welcoming the month of Ramadan," she concluded. ***
