JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government held a cheap food movement to stabilize the supply and prices of basic commodities and control inflation, ahead of Ramadan 2024, at the Governor's Office Yard, Jayapura City Wednesday (6/3/2024) morning.
Local food commodities provided include 5 kilograms of SPHP rice, chili, shallots, garlic, purebred chicken meat, and chicken eggs.
Head of the Papua Horticulture and Food Crops Office, Semuel Siriwa said the cheap food movement followed the Acting Governor's instruction for local governments to get closer to the community.
The cheap food movement is expected to help people who will celebrate Ramadan, Easter and even Eid al-Fitr, including local farmers.
"The point is that the government is getting closer to the community so that prices can be controlled and there is no inflation for food commodities in Papua."
"Similarly, for local farmers, we facilitate transportation subsidies to cheap food places so that they can sell at reasonable prices or so that both the community and farmers benefit," explained Siriwa on the sidelines of the cheap food.
The Papua provincial government, according to Siriwa, will start to roll out cheap food to places of worship. The goal is to help Muslims in Cenderawasih Earth who will carry out fasting.
"But we are waiting for requests from the mosque or local congregation, we immediately respond to every request," he explained.
Reski Vanloen, one of the cheap food visitors, appreciated the Papua Provincial Government for holding the agenda. He hopes that the activity will be held at least once a week.
"If we may suggest that a cheap market be made once a week. Because this event is very helpful for us who will undergo fasting," said the man who works as a fisherman. ***
