JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government plans to develop sea and air port infrastructure in its territory, to support exports abroad.
According to the Acting Secretary of Papua, Derek Hegemur, the provincial government some time ago had successfully exported less than 100 containers of wood through the Port of Jayapura.
Therefore, the Papua Provincial Government plans to increase export activities from the port of Jayapura through the improvement of existing infrastructure.
"The development of infrastructure for direct export abroad requires careful preparation, including the development of sea and air ports."
"With the instruments that have been prepared, Papua's hope to increase direct exports abroad is increasingly wide open. Given the potential and open international market for Papuan products," explained Derek in Jayapura, Monday (13/5/2024).
According to Derek, the development of sea and air ports is a priority to make Papua an exit point for Papua's superior products
The first step starts from Biak, which is to export tuna directly to Narita, Japan.
"Then there is also cocoa, coffee is also a leading commodity spread in various regions of Papua. If the infrastructure is good, we encourage exports."
"But we first develop community businesses independently, to increase income and stabilize the economy in the Papua region," he said. ***
