JAYAPURA – The Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) of Papua Province aims for all physical works for the 2025 fiscal year to be fully contracted by no later than the second week of August. The contractual process is carried out in stages, starting with consultancy activities that are currently underway.
Acting Head of PUPR Papua, Robert Awi, said that the announcement of physical works projects would take place after the consultancy phase is completed. By the end of June, consultancy activities had been announced and will be followed by physical works contracts.
“This year’s projects are spread across four main sectors. Bina Marga (road infrastructure) includes 114 activities, Cipta Karya (public facilities) 20 activities, Water Resources (SDA) 31 activities, and one activity in the housing sector,” Robert explained.
Compared to the previous year, the number of physical activities has significantly decreased. Robert clarified that the total budget this year is around 200 billion IDR, which is lower than last year. Nevertheless, they continue to optimize available resources to ensure development proceeds in all nine regencies/cities.
One project drawing particular attention is the landslide handling on the Ring Road area in Jayapura City. The project, with a contract value of 5 billion IDR, is scheduled to start in August 2025 after planning documents are completed.
“Planning requires one month. Once the planning documents are submitted, the physical works will be immediately announced,” Robert said.
He added that PUPR Papua continues to push for consistency in planning and scheduling project announcements so that no projects are delayed due to administrative obstacles.
“This effort is also in line with the provincial government’s target to improve infrastructure quality evenly across Papua, despite geographic challenges and budget limitations,” he concluded. ***
