JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, demonstrates his strong commitment to promoting diversity and enhancing interfaith tolerance in Papua. During a weekend visit, Fatoni toured several places of worship—both mosques and churches—in Jayapura City.
This activity is part of the Papua Provincial Government's humanistic approach to maintaining social harmony and strengthening bonds of brotherhood among communities. Besides engaging in discussions with religious leaders, Fatoni also took part in religious activities and listened to the concerns of the people.
“We are grateful that Papua is a blessed land—peaceful, safe, full of tolerance and brotherhood. Thank you to all the people who continue to protect this atmosphere,” said Fatoni while addressing the congregation at Sion Church, Pandang Bulan, Jayapura, Papua, on Sunday (July 20, 2025).
Fatoni highlighted the importance of preserving Papua as a shared homeland. He called on all members of society to stay united and not be provoked by divisive issues.
“Papua is a mini-Indonesia that has ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity. That is our true wealth. I hope this spirit of tolerance sets an example for other regions,” said Fatoni.
He urged all citizens and religious communities to ensure the upcoming Gubernatorial Election Re-Vote (PSU) is peaceful, secure, honest, and fair. He emphasized the importance of maintaining Papua’s positive image as a region that upholds unity and democracy.
“I remind you again that we will hold the revote on August 6, 2025. Let’s exercise our voting rights wisely and peacefully. Do not be easily provoked or pitted against each other,” Fatoni warned.
After visiting the church, Fatoni also stopped by Ash-Shalihin Mosque, where he again encouraged the public to support a successful revote process.
He called on all segments of society—religious leaders, traditional leaders, and youth—to continue serving as ambassadors of peace and development.
“Let us continue to uphold Papua’s image as a land of peace. We want a safe, peaceful, advanced, and prosperous Papua. This is achievable if we unite and support one another,” Fatoni concluded.
His visits to places of worship also included a trip to Al-Muhajirin Mosque in Holtekamp on Saturday (July 19). These visits are part of broader efforts to strengthen social stability in preparation for strategic agendas in Papua, including the upcoming revote and ongoing initiatives to improve the quality of life for its residents. citizens. ***
