SARMI – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, called on all Papuans—especially traders—to exercise their voting rights during the Repeat Voting for the Papua Governor and Deputy Governor Election, scheduled for August 6, 2025.
This appeal was conveyed during his working visit to Sarmi Regency. On this occasion, Fatoni met directly with traders in various locations, including markets, kiosks, and rest areas near Sarmi Regency on Friday (25/07/2025).
He confirmed that the majority of traders he spoke with had already been registered as voters for the upcoming Repeat Voting. Fatoni also encouraged the entire public to actively participate in this democratic celebration.
“I spoke directly with the traders—they are already registered. So, I urge all registered Papuan voters to come to the polling stations on August 6,” said Fatoni.
“Don’t abstain, don’t skip voting—use your voting rights according to your own choice to help determine Papua’s future leadership,” he added.
He expressed hope that the Repeat Voting would become a peaceful, orderly, and joyful democratic moment for all Papuans.
“Let’s prove that Papua is ready to shape its future peacefully, honestly, and democratically—for a more advanced and prosperous Papua,” he said.
Following the visit, Fatoni praised Papua’s peaceful and harmonious environment. He stated that Papua is a miniature version of Indonesia, where people from various ethnicities and backgrounds live side by side in peace and mutual respect.
“As we can see, all ethnic groups are here. There are indigenous Papuans, and also people from East Java, Sulawesi—even last night I met a trader from Central Sulawesi. Everyone lives in harmony, and there are no problems. Security is maintained, the economy is running, and people can do business and engage in activities comfortably,” Fatoni explained.
“We should be grateful—Papua is our shared home. Despite our differences in ethnicity, religion, and culture, we can live peacefully side by side. This is Papua’s true strength,” he concluded. ***
