JAYAPURA–The Papua Provincial Government officially launched a series of commemorative activities marking the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day on Friday at the Papua Governor’s Office courtyard in Dok II, Jayapura.
The event featured a leisurely walk, group exercise, and a blood donation campaign, attracting thousands of participants including civil servants, the Indonesian National Armed Forces and Indonesian National Police, private sector employees, and residents.
As part of the national campaign, “Movement to Distribute 10 Million Red and White Flags,” the event also saw the distribution of the Indonesian flag to representatives from the Indonesian National Armed Forces and Police, indigenous communities, and social organizations. The flags will be further disseminated to the public to foster a patriotic spirit.
The launch was officiated by Acting Regional Secretary of Papua, Suzana Wanggai, who, alongside members of the Papua Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, released helium balloons symbolizing unity and hope.
Suzana highlighted this year’s Independence Day theme: “United, Sovereign, Prosperous People, and Advanced Indonesia.” She emphasized that the theme reflects a collective commitment to building a healthy, prosperous, and competitive Papua.
“People’s welfare begins with health. A healthy community supports economic activity and regional development,” she stated.
Furthermore, Suzana called on Papuans to actively participate in the upcoming Repeat Voting for the Governor and Deputy Governor Election scheduled for August 6, 2025.
“I urge all eligible voters not to abstain. Please come to the polling stations and exercise your right to vote sincerely,” she emphasized.
To facilitate maximum voter turnout, the Papua Provincial Government has designated August 6 as an official public holiday via a circular letter. ***
