KEEROM – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, visited Keerom Regency and Jayapura Regency. The purpose of this visit was to check the preparations for the Repeat Voting of the Governor and Deputy Governor Election in Keerom Regency. During this visit, Fatoni urged all residents of Keerom not to waste their voting rights during the Repeat Voting scheduled for August 6.
“Shortly, as we all know, on August 6, we will hold a Repeat Voting. Therefore, I call on all citizens who have the right to vote to come to the polling stations and exercise their rights wisely,” said Fatoni at the Keerom Scout Branch Office Building, Papua, Thursday (24/07/2025).
Fatoni also encouraged the public to invite their relatives, friends, colleagues, and neighbors to join them at the polling stations. This call aligns with the Papua Provincial Government’s issuance of a Circular Letter designating August 6, 2025, as a public holiday related to the Repeat Voting for the Papua Governor and Deputy Governor Election in the region.
“Because this Repeat Voting opportunity only comes once every five years, let us not waste this moment and choose the next leader of Papua for the next five years,” Fatoni emphasized. Additionally, Fatoni mentioned that the community must support the Provincial, Regency, and City Governments in implementing development effectively. “So once a leader is elected, we must support them together and also monitor the government’s work to ensure it adheres to established regulations,” he added.
During the event, he also highlighted the importance of maintaining a peaceful climate in Keerom Regency. One way is by avoiding the spread of hoaxes, as they can divide unity and damage harmony. “We must preserve and nurture this conducive climate because it speeds up development and helps achieve public welfare,” he explained.
Therefore, Fatoni also called on all parties to assist in upholding Papua’s positive image both nationally and internationally. One method is by spreading positive information about Papua’s successes, tolerance, and beauty on social media. “In cyberspace, we must fight hoaxes and hate speech with positive narratives about Papua. So, the world knows that Papua is safe, tolerant, and orderly,” he stated.
During the visit, Fatoni also provided several forms of assistance to Keerom Regency to strengthen collaboration with the Regional Apparatus Work Units of Papua Provincial Government activities.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Regent of Keerom, the Head of the Keerom Regency Repeat Voting of the General Elections Commission, the Head of the Keerom Regency Election Supervisory Board, and the Heads of Regional Apparatus Organization in Papua.
In addition, the Regional Secretary of Papua Province, relevant agency heads, heads of the Regional Apparatus Organization, the Regional Leadership Communication Forum, and other guests were present. ***
