JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, has urged Regents and Mayors across Papua Province to instruct village heads, district heads, and ward leaders to reactivate the neighborhood security system (siskamling) in their respective areas. He delivered this call during the National Unity Ceremony and Interfaith Prayer Gathering held at the State Building, Jayapura, Papua, on Saturday (Sept 6, 2025).
“I call on all Regents and Mayors in Papua Province to order all district heads, village heads, and ward leaders to reactivate the neighborhood security system in their respective areas,” Fatoni said.
Fatoni emphasized that security efforts are not only about responding to incidents but also about creating a sustainable sense of safety within communities. Therefore, he invited all residents to take part in siskamling activities in their neighborhoods.
“I invite all members of the community to actively participate in siskamling and in safeguarding their respective environments,” he stated.
He further highlighted the importance of maintaining peace and harmony in Papua:
“Let us continue to maintain a conducive climate, a harmonious atmosphere, and a safe and peaceful Papua so that our beloved land can truly be a peaceful Papua for all of us,” he added.
On this occasion, Fatoni also expressed his gratitude to all elements of society, including religious leaders, traditional leaders, provincial and local government officials, as well as the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the National Police, for their commitment to maintaining a safe, peaceful, and conducive environment in Papua.
“We must safeguard and nurture this safe and harmonious Papua so that people can continue their activities today and in the days ahead. We need to preserve this peaceful and harmonious Papua so that everyone can go about their daily lives,” he said.
In addition, Fatoni reminded the public not to be easily provoked or to provoke others, especially through hoaxes and hate speech that could disrupt social harmony.
“Let us continue to preserve and maintain unity, peace, and harmony in this province we all love,” he urged.
Finally, he called on all elements of society to work together in building Papua.
“Let us work hand in hand to build the Papua we love together,” Fatoni concluded. ***
