JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, emphasized that Papua has significant fisheries potential. This statement was delivered after accompanying Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, during his visit to the Hamadi Fish Landing Base (PPI) in Jayapura on Thursday (September 18, 2023).
Fatoni underlined the need for proper utilization of fisheries resources to enhance community welfare. He also highlighted the urgency of improving infrastructure and facilities at PPI Hamadi and organizing trading areas around the site.
“Infrastructure at PPI Hamadi still requires improvement. We hope the government can make the necessary repairs and provide proper facilities for traders,” Fatoni said.
He further appreciated the Vice President’s visit, which he considered valuable for policy formulation. By directly observing conditions in the field, the Vice President can better coordinate with ministries and regional governments in determining follow-up actions.
The Vice President’s visit was warmly welcomed by the community, fishermen, and local traders. On this occasion, the Vice President also interacted with residents and purchased fish from local vendors as a gesture of support. ***
