JAYAPURA – Acting Regional Secretary of Papua Province, Suzana D. Wanggai, conducted a direct inspection of the preparations for the planned opening of the Cross-Border Transportation (ALBN) Jayapura–Vanimo route at the Type A Terminal in Jayapura City on Thursday (October 2, 2025).
“The Jayapura–Vanimo Cross-Border Transportation (Round Trip) is one of the tangible forms of cooperation between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea (PNG), aimed at opening economic opportunities, facilitating mobility, and meeting the needs of communities living along the border areas of both countries,” said Suzana.
Suzana expressed her appreciation to Perum DAMRI for its readiness in preparing the fleet and technical support to ensure smooth operations of the Jayapura–Vanimo Cross-Border Transportation service.
She added that the trial opening of the Jayapura–Vanimo service, scheduled for October 14–16, 2025, needs to be further refined—particularly through increased public outreach and coordination with relevant agencies in both countries to ensure a smooth and orderly implementation.
“We also invite the public, especially residents of Jayapura City, to take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen connectivity and enhance cross-border economic activity,” Suzana added.
Meanwhile, Moch Isa Renyaan, Head of Operations at Perum DAMRI Jayapura City, stated that DAMRI’s readiness on the Indonesian side has reached 90%, with the current focus on completing the licensing process and preparing supporting facilities in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
“We are ready to carry out the trial operation of the Jayapura–Vanimo Cross-Border Transportation service. We are now awaiting the finalization of permits and supporting facilities in Vanimo,” said Renyaan.
Tangkuman Alexander, Indonesian Consul in Vanimo, affirmed that his office continues to facilitate the licensing process, the provision of terminals and ticket counters in Vanimo, as well as coordination and socialization efforts with stakeholders in PNG.
“We are committed to ensuring that the Jayapura–Vanimo Cross-Border Transportation (Round Trip) can operate smoothly, without obstacles, and bring tangible benefits to the people of both countries,” Tangkuman emphasized. ***
