JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector through continuous mentoring and the utilization of the People’s Business Credit program. This initiative is part of the government’s strategy to accelerate grassroots economic growth and expand access to productive business financing across the region.
Deputy Governor of Papua, Aryoko Rumaropen, conveyed this during the Mass Signing Ceremony of the People’s Business Credit for 800,000 Job Creation Debtors and the Launch of the Housing Program Credit. The event was held simultaneously across Indonesia and was attended by MSME entrepreneurs from the Papua Governor’s Office in Jayapura on Tuesday (October 21, 2025).
He explained that the Papua Provincial Government will continue to collaborate with banks and related institutions to ensure that People's Business Credit distribution is well-targeted, accompanied by mentoring for MSME actors so they can manage their business capital sustainably.
“The government is not only encouraging people to access credit but also ensuring the provision of mentoring, training, and marketing facilitation so that MSME players in Papua become stronger and more independent,” Aryoko said.
Out of the 800,000 KUR debtors nationwide, 145 MSME entrepreneurs from Papua took part in the mass signing event. They represented various productive sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, traditional trade, and home industries.
According to Aryoko, Papua has great local economic potential but still requires business capacity building and improved financial literacy. Therefore, the People's Business Credit program will continue to be aligned with regional policies to promote inclusive economic growth at the village level.
“Through People's Business Credit, we aim to expand access to capital for small communities so their businesses can grow, create new jobs, and improve family welfare,” he added.
The Papua Provincial Government will also strengthen coordination with Bank Indonesia and the Financial Services Authority to monitor program implementation and ensure that People's Business Credit funds are used productively. ***
