JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government, through the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), has called on the public to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall continues to affect several areas across the province.
The regions advised to stay on alert include Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Keerom Regency, and Sarmi Regency.
Acting Head of Papua BPBD, B. Wisnu Raditya, stated that these four areas should exercise caution amid the ongoing weather conditions, particularly due to the increased risks of flooding and landslides.
“Rainfall has been occurring evenly across several districts and cities. Therefore, the public must stay alert and take preventive measures,” he said.
He added that early warnings have already been issued and urged residents to respond proactively.
“Do not ignore these warnings. Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds must be anticipated,” he emphasized.
Wisnu also reminded residents to keep their surroundings clean, noting that clogged drainage systems can exacerbate flooding.
“Our equipment and rapid response teams are on standby to assist the Regional Disaster Management Agency offices of the district and city whenever needed,” he concluded. ***
