JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government is reinforcing its cross-sectoral commitment to accelerate efforts to combat stunting through the Genting Program or theFoster Parents Movement to Prevent Stunting. The initiative was marked by the signing of a joint commitment by heads of regional apparatus organizations at the Papua Governor’s Office courtyard on Monday (November 10, 2025).
Papua Deputy Governor Aryoko Rumaropen stated that the program represents a concrete manifestation of collaboration among all regional agencies to improve children’s nutrition and health in Papua. This initiative is also part of the Governor and Deputy Governor’s 100-day work program.
“The Genting Program is not merely a ceremonial activity but a collective movement involving all regional apparatus organizations as foster parents for Papuan children,” said Aryoko.
He explained that stunting prevention efforts will be integrated into various regional programs — including health, education, food security, and community empowerment. The program has also been incorporated into the Transitional Regional Medium-Term Development Plan and aligned with Papua’s development roadmap toward Vision 2030.
According to Aryoko, the success of stunting reduction efforts depends largely on the participation of all stakeholders. Therefore, he hopes the foster parent movement will serve as a starting point for building collective awareness and concern for children’s growth and development in Papua.
“In the first year, we will carry out a comprehensive evaluation to assess its impact on the ground,” Aryoko added.
The Genting Program is one of the main priorities of Governor Matius Fakhiri and Deputy Governor Aryoko Rumaropen within their 100-day agenda, along with institutional restructuring, improving education services, and strengthening food security. ***
