JAYAPURA – Papua Governor Matius Fakhiri underscored that journalistic ethics and professionalism are essential pillars in strengthening public trust in the media.
This message was conveyed by Acting Regional Secretary of Papua, Triwarno Purnomo, while opening a Socialization Program on Journalistic Ethics and Professionalism for local media personnel at the Papua Governor’s Office on Friday (November 14, 2025).
Triwarno stated that journalists play a crucial role in providing accurate and objective information in accordance with ethical guidelines. Therefore, enhancing journalists’ understanding of ethical standards has become an urgent necessity.
“This activity is very important because journalists must meet the public’s demand for accurate and objective information every day. Ethics and professionalism are core foundations in building public trust,” he said.
He added that rapid technological developments and increasingly complex workloads require journalists to continuously adapt without compromising the quality of news reporting.
“We hope journalists will uphold integrity—not merely chasing clicks or sensationalism, but remaining grounded in facts and ethical principles. The information they deliver is vital for evaluating and improving government policies,” Triwarno continued.
Chair of the organizing committee, Ina Mansnandifu, explained that the program aims to strengthen journalists' credibility and prevent ethical violations that could harm both the media and the public.
Additional objectives include improving the quality of journalistic work, reinforcing journalistic integrity, and encouraging the production of accurate, balanced, and fact-based reporting.
The socialization event featured the Chairman of PWI Papua and the Deputy Chairman of the Press Council, Totok Suryanto, who delivered an online presentation on journalistic ethics, media responsibility, and key principles of professionalism that must be upheld in journalistic practice. ***
