JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government considers the SERUNAI 2025 program to play a direct role in maintaining price stability and transaction convenience ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Money exchange services, mobile cash services, and synergy across the banking sector are viewed as instrumental in ensuring the availability of fit-for-circulation Rupiah amid a surge in economic activity.
Papua Deputy Governor Aryoko Rumaropen stated that the program aligns with the “New Papua Transformation” agenda, which emphasizes efficiency, consumer protection, and equitable access to financial services.
“SERUNAI not only ensures the availability of Rupiah currency but also safeguards safe and convenient transactions for the public during the Christmas and New Year period,” he said on Monday (December 8, 2025).
“The sufficient circulation of small-denomination banknotes also helps curb potential price-rounding practices that could increase the financial burden on residents,” he added.
He further noted that the expansion of financial education initiatives and the promotion of QRIS usage are part of a broader strategy to enhance regional economic productivity.
“These efforts support a more efficient and innovative Papua, while also strengthening economic stability at the household level,” he said.
Bank Indonesia officially launched the SERUNAI (Semarak Rupiah Natal Penuh Damai) 2025 program through a kick-off ceremony at the Papua Governor’s Office on Monday (December 8, 2025). Jayapura City was selected as the national launch location for the program, which will run until December 23, 2025. ***
