JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government concluded 2025 with a series of positive achievements across multiple development sectors, according to its year-end review. The report highlights improvements in government performance, particularly in human development, economic growth, and price stability.
Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri said the province's Human Development Index (HDI) reached 74.69 in 2025, reflecting gains in the quality of human resources through improved education and healthcare services.
"Throughout 2025, the performance of the Papua Provincial Government has shown improvement. This provides an important foundation as we move into the coming year," the governor said in Jayapura on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
In the social sector, Papua recorded a poverty rate of 19.16 percent, an unemployment rate of 6.97 percent, and a life expectancy of 70.77 years. The provincial government attributed these results to the consistent implementation of regional development policies over the past year.
Economically, Papua posted 4.21 percent growth in the third quarter of 2025, the highest among provinces in the Papua region. Price stability also remained under control, with year-on-year inflation at 2.51 percent, while monthly inflation in November 2025 stood at 0.08 percent. In recognition of this performance, Papua received the 2025 TPID Award.
Despite these gains, the governor stressed that significant challenges remain and must be addressed in 2026, particularly in the health sector. He said the stunting prevalence rate, still at 28.6 percent, remains a major issue requiring serious and sustained attention.
"Reducing stunting will be a top priority in the future. This is part of our shared responsibility to improve the quality of life of the people of Papua," he said.
Through the year-end review, the Papua Provincial Government reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing development in 2026 in a way that is more targeted, inclusive, and sustainable. ***
