JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government has demonstrated interregional solidarity by providing humanitarian assistance to communities affected by disasters in Sumatra. A total of Rp500 million was allocated to support disaster response efforts in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatera.
Papua Governor Matius Fakhiri said the assistance was a form of national solidarity from the Papua Provincial Government toward other regions facing hardship. He stressed that humanitarian concern should not be limited by geographic boundaries.
"From Papua Province, in line with the resources we have, we are providing assistance of Rp500 million as a reflection of empathy and solidarity among fellow Indonesians," the Governor said.
According to Fakhiri, the assistance was provided with due consideration to the province's fiscal capacity. The Papua Provincial Government is maintaining a balance between humanitarian concern and its responsibility to continue development and public services in Papua.
"We are still paying close attention to the region's financial condition so that this assistance does not disrupt our development obligations and public services for the people of Papua," he said.
In addition to material assistance, the Papua Provincial Government also conveyed moral support and prayers for communities affected by the disasters in Sumatra. The Governor expressed hope that the assistance would help ease the burden and support recovery efforts in the affected areas.
"All people of Papua are praying that our brothers and sisters in Sumatra will be given strength and resilience in facing this difficult time," he said. ***
