BIAK — Vice President Gibran Rakabuming departed for Papua this morning, Tuesday (13/01/2026), for a working visit to several regions as part of the government's efforts to promote development that is inclusive, equitable, and just, while ensuring that national priority programs are implemented all the way to eastern Indonesia.
This working visit is being carried out in line with President Prabowo Subianto's directive emphasizing the importance of accelerating development across the Land of Papua comprehensively and equitably.
Beginning the series of visits, the Vice President traveled to Biak Numfor Regency, Papua Province. In Biak, he is scheduled to review program implementation in the education and fisheries sectors, as well as greet residents directly.
Next, the Vice President will continue to Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, Highland Papua Province. In this area, he will interact with young people, observe local community economic activities, and meet with members of the regional leadership coordination forum, religious leaders, and community leaders.
Through this working visit, the Vice President reaffirmed the government's commitment to maintaining a presence in the Land of Papua, ensuring that development proceeds inclusively, and encouraging improvements in people's quality of life through strengthening the education, health, economic, and security sectors.
Also accompanying the Vice President on this visit were Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ribka Haluk, and Chair of the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Papua Special Autonomy Development Velix Wanggai. ***
