JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government received a visit from the Government of Canada on Tuesday (11/2). The visit took place at the governor's office.
The working visit by the Canadian Embassy delegation to Papua Province was aimed at monitoring and discussing the continuation of cooperation in the areas of women's and children's protection, as well as the prevention of sexual violence.
Arielle Sobhani, Second Secretary for Political and Public Affairs, Foreign Policy and Diplomacy Services (FPDS), Embassy of Canada to Indonesia & Timor-Leste, said the visit was intended to review the achievements of the program while also discussing plans for further cooperation in Papua.
"We are focused on programs for the protection of children and women, as well as the prevention of sexual violence," she said.
Meanwhile, Acting Assistant for General Administration of Papua Province, Suzana D. Wanggai, said that Canada's support for Papua has been ongoing for quite a long time, especially on issues of women's and children's protection, which are still considered to require serious attention.
"This program has been funded by the Government of Canada and is currently being implemented by the Indonesian Planned Parenthood Association," she said.
According to Suzana, the Papua Provincial Government has coordinated with a number of relevant regional agencies to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the program.
"The results of the discussions with the Government of Canada will be followed up on in accordance with the authority of the regional government," she said.
She added that cooperation between Canada and Papua is part of the long-standing bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Canada, with a number of programs focused on social issues and public health. ***
