JAYAPURA — To curb inflation, the Papua Provincial Government will hold the Low-Cost Food Movement 21 times at 21 different locations in 2026. The locations will be adjusted to community needs and major religious holidays.
Head of the Papua Food Agency, Sri Utami, said the locations will move according to need.
"For example, ahead of Eid, it will be held in mosque courtyards. Likewise, during Christmas, it will be carried out at other houses of worship, so that people's access to food necessities can be met," she said.
She explained that the program is aimed not only at helping the public obtain staple foods at affordable prices, but also at serving as an instrument for regional inflation control.
Meanwhile, Papua Vice Governor Aryoko Rumaropen said the measure is intended to prepare food availability in terms of quantity, safety, and supply sustainability in Papua Province.
"We are implementing low-cost food programs in accordance with the central government's mandate so that before and after major religious holidays, price stability and food affordability can be maintained," he concluded. ***
