JAYAPURA — Ahead of the National Religious Holiday of Eid al-Fitr, the Regional Inflation Control Team of Papua Province conducted surprise inspections at some staple food and essential goods distribution points on Thursday (February 26).
The activity was led by regional government officials as a form of commitment to maintaining the stability of supply and prices for public necessities.
Papua Assistant for Government and People's Welfare, Yohanes Walilo, said that the inspection focused on the availability of rice stocks in the Logistic Agency warehouses.
"Based on the inspection results, rice stocks are still sufficient through Eid, and are even available to meet the needs of both Papua Province and Highland Papua," he said.
Meanwhile, Papua Assistant for Economy and Development, Setiyo Wahyudi, explained that in general, the availability of staple foods and essential goods remains secure.
For the cooking oil commodity, a distributor in Holtekam was reported to have adequate stock. Other commodities are also available in sufficient quantities throughout Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
In terms of prices, the Regional Inflation Control Team recorded increases in several commodities, but these were still within a reasonable range.
"The provincial government will continue intensive monitoring of the availability and prices of staple foods and essential goods to maintain market stability and anticipate potential price spikes ahead of Eid al-Fitr," he concluded. ***
