JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government discussed expanding electricity access in remote areas, the 2026 free Eid al-Fitr homecoming program, and strengthening port and airport infrastructure during a meeting between Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri and Tedi Bharata, Deputy Head II of the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency, in Jakarta on Friday (February 27).
Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri said that expanding electricity services is one of the priorities.
"Adequate electricity availability not only supports the basic needs of the community, but also encourages economic activity and improves quality of life in remote areas," he said.
In addition, they discussed plans to implement a free homecoming program ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026. The program is intended to help Papuan residents access air and sea transportation at more affordable costs.
"Strengthening ports and airports is also a major concern. Inter-regional connectivity is considered important in reducing price disparities for goods and improving logistics distribution, given Papua's challenging geographic conditions," he said.
He expressed hope that the synergy with state-owned enterprises could soon be followed up with operational steps to accelerate equitable development and improve regional economic growth, especially in remote areas. ***
