JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government, through the Regional Disaster Management Agency, has urged the public to increase vigilance against the potential for hydrometeorological disasters ahead of and during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Acting Head of the Papua Provincial Regional Disaster Management Agency, B. Wisnu Raditya, said that until the end of March, Papua still has the potential to experience moderate to heavy rainfall due to climate change.
These conditions could trigger floods and landslides, especially in disaster-prone areas.
"We urge the public to remain alert to fairly extreme weather changes. This vigilance is important so that we can minimize the risk of disasters such as floods and landslides," he said.
He also asked the public to always follow official information regarding weather and climate conditions from authorized agencies such as the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency and the Regional Disaster Management Agency.
"This information is very important as an early mitigation step if significant weather changes occur," he said.
To support Eid security and preparedness, the Regional Disaster Management Agency has also prepared emergency response facilities and infrastructure, including evacuation equipment and rapid response teams that will be on standby 24 hours a day. ***
