JAYAPURA — Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, the Papua Provincial Government, through the Food Agency, is holding an affordable food program for the public. The activity is taking place over two days, from March 11–12, 2026, at Al-Aqsa Mosque, Jayapura Regency.
Papua Vice Governor Aryoko Rumaropen said that the purpose of the Affordable Food Movement is to maintain food stability and stabilize commodity prices across Papua. In addition, it is also part of efforts to control inflation in Papua.
"The goods sold in this affordable food program are cheaper than those sold in markets or modern retail stores," he said on Wednesday (March 11).
Meanwhile, Head of the Papua Provincial Food Agency Sri Utami said that the affordable food program is intended to help the public obtain necessities at more affordable prices, especially ahead of Eid.
"In this activity, we are providing some strategic staple goods needed by the public, such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, onions, chili peppers, as well as beef and chicken," she said.
She added that, in addition to staple goods, the affordable food program also offers vegetables and various kitchen spices sold in fresh condition.
This affordable food program is open to the public, especially for residents preparing their needs ahead of Eid.
"The prices we offer are more affordable because they are below market prices or the prices sold in stores," she concluded. ***
