JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government has emphasized the importance of preventing kidney disease through public health education. This was conveyed by Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri during the inauguration of the hemodialysis service at RSUD Abepura in Jayapura City.
The Governor said that dialysis treatment is intended for patients whose condition has already reached an advanced stage. Therefore, the public needs to receive early understanding so they can prevent the risk of kidney disease.
"I know this is the final stage, when the condition can no longer be treated in any other way, and only then is dialysis carried out," Fakhiri said.
He asked hospitals not only to focus on treatment services, but also to actively provide education to the public about healthy lifestyles as a preventive measure.
"Hospitals must also look at the causes and carry out outreach so that people do not reach the stage where they need dialysis," he said.
According to him, chronic kidney disease cases show a trend that needs serious attention. Prevention efforts are seen as more effective than treatment at an advanced stage, which requires intensive care.
The Governor hopes that the presence of the hemodialysis unit at RSUD Abepura will not only improve medical services but also serve as a means of education for patients and the wider community.
"In addition to providing services, this place must also become a center of education so that people understand how to maintain kidney health," he said. ***
