JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government held a ceremony to commemorate National Education Day in the courtyard of the Papua Governor's Office on Saturday (May 2, 2026), as a demonstration of its commitment to strengthening the education sector and developing human resources.
Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri emphasized that the main challenge facing education in Papua does not lie in students' abilities, but rather in limited access and uneven infrastructure, particularly in remote areas.
According to him, in terms of curriculum, education in Papua is already on par with other regions in Indonesia. However, the distribution of educational facilities and infrastructure remains a key concern for the regional government.
"We are committed to providing internet access so that children in remote areas can enjoy the same educational services as those in urban areas," he said.
Furthermore, the Governor stressed the importance of strengthening human resources in welcoming the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045. These efforts are being carried out through synergy between the education and health sectors.
"We continue to encourage the development of Papua's human resources toward Golden Indonesia. If this runs synergistically, it will accelerate the achievement of the 2045 target," he affirmed.
Through the momentum of National Education Day, the Papua Provincial Government reaffirmed its commitment to continuously improving the quality of education equitably and sustainably, in order to create a generation of Papuans who are excellent, independent, and competitive toward Golden Indonesia 2045. ***
