JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government officially closed the series of World Press Freedom Day 2026 activities held on May 4–5, 2026, in Jayapura. The closing ceremony was led by the Head of the Papua Province Communication and Informatics Office, Jeri Agus Yudianto, on behalf of Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri. (5/5)
On this occasion, Jeri Agus Yudianto read the Governor of Papua's remarks, stating that the implementation of WPFD 2026 had run smoothly and meaningfully, while also strengthening the commitment to a quality, independent, and responsible press. The theme, "Quality Press for a Peaceful and Just Future for Indonesia," was considered aligned with the vision of a New Papua Transformation that is Advanced and Harmonious, in which the press plays a role as a credible source of information and a guardian of transparency in development.
The Papua Provincial Government also invited all parties to strengthen journalistic professionalism, protection for members of the press, and collaboration among the government, media, and the public.
"This WPFD momentum must serve to strengthen collaboration between the government and members of the press in delivering accurate, reassuring information that builds public optimism," Jeri said. ***
