JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government is preparing the 2027 Papua Provincial Data List as a reference for development planning. The data is expected to reflect development needs and support the entire process, from planning to program evaluation.

Acting Papua Regional Secretary Christian Sohilait said data serves as the foundation for the government to understand the conditions and needs of communities and determine development priorities. According to him, effective policies require accurate, up-to-date, and reliable data.

“Good policies must be built on accurate data. Well-targeted programs require up-to-date information,” Sohilait said while opening the 2026 Papua Province One Data Forum Coordination Meeting.

Sohilait emphasized that the 2027 Papua Provincial Data List should not merely fulfill the government's administrative requirements. Instead, it must provide practical value throughout the development process, from planning to evaluation.

The Papua One Data Forum also discussed the 2027–2030 Papua Provincial One Data Action Plan. Sohilait said the action plan should serve as a shared guideline for gradually and sustainably improving data governance.

“This action plan must not stop as an administrative document, but must become a shared guideline and commitment,” he said.

The Papua Provincial Government is also preparing to develop the Papua Provincial Data Portal. The portal is intended to make development information more accessible to both the government and the public while ensuring data security and protection.

Sohilait said implementing the One Data initiative requires the involvement of all stakeholders. Data stewards, data custodians, supporting data custodians, data producers, regency and city governments, and regional agencies must work together to ensure that data is properly integrated.

“With good data, we can see Papua more comprehensively. With accurate information, we can determine priorities more precisely,” he said.

He expressed hope that the coordination meeting would produce agreements on institutional arrangements, the 2027 Data List, the 2027–2030 Action Plan, data quality, data integration, and the development of the Papua Data Portal.

The meeting also received technical support from the Secretariat of Indonesia’s One Data Initiative, the Data and Information Center of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Statistics Indonesia, and the SKALA Development Partner. Sohilait said he hoped the collaboration would strengthen data-driven governance in Papua. ***
